Thinking of Gram this past week has a flood of memories dancing in my head. I think of... sitting in her favorite room, the sun porch, drinking ice tea on a summer afternoon; watching the birds take a dip in their well cared for bird bath; taking long evening walks around their Fairfield neighborhood; taking a picnic lunch to Jennings Beach; enjoying Peppridge Farm toast that we only had at Gram's; always knowing where to find the peppermint candy bowl; going to my mail box almost every Friday in college and finding a letter from Gram with all the McCulloch news updates; putting our "feet up" and taking a short nap before PaPa came home for dinner; watching her laugh so hard she was crying when Aunt Jane told the Rabbit FuFu story; hearing her talk about her beloved New York Yankees and UCONN Women team's; listening to her share stories of her brother Bill and Sister "Al"; always speaking with profound love for her Mom; knowing how much she loved her Children; watching her face light up when the Great Grandchildren filled the room; listening to her speak about her faith; all of our lives were blessed to have her as part of our family. Story shared: A sleepover at Grandma's House

The house was in the perfect spot for a kid like me. It was shaded with large trees and there was near a small woods with a small stream in the wooded area. The house itself was very unassuming, a very well kept cape. I can remember being dropped off on numerous occasions for the afternoon or a sleepover. My time would be spent with either Grandpa explaining a new golf grip or Grandma ushering me outside to play. The latter proved to hold many adventures. The access to the 'outside' was through grandma's warm and clean kitchen. Passing by the sink, with a bird feeder full on the window sill, I would walk down the short steps to the back door. My tool of the trade, a coffee can, was lined up in the sill by the door. My 'salamander can' was waiting for there to begin gathering my pets. The can was not limited to just retaining the Red Backed Salamander but also a host of other creatures. Crickets, worms, bird nests, ferns and the like would often be brought back in the can. Catching and keeping these items wasn't the just the work of my conservationist persona, but it was the excitement in Grandma's eyes and the approval of my skills in catching so elusive a prey. :) I could always count on the kitchen table in the corner having some tea or hot cocoa with a crackers, as a reward. In the evening Grandpa and I would help roll out the TV tray tables to assist grandma in feeding her helpless men. Jello salad would inevitably star in the dinner and would be only slightly better than the ShaNaNA or Donnie and Marie show we watched during dinner. As the day would wind down and the covers would get pulled back on my perfectly made bed. A story made up of 'Pete the Fire Dog' would grace my ears from grandpa, and grandma would peak in for a last kiss, a short book or a prayer. My life will always be richer for having such a loving grandmother. I will miss her terribly but will pass on all of her love and her sage advice to the my friends and family. Dear Family, I would like to send my condolences. It can be extremely difficult to lose a loved one. That is why I wanted to share the hope found in the bible, the hope of the resurrection. Jesus stated at John 5:28,29 "The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will come out." And at Revelation 21:3,4 it states that there will be a time when "...death will be no more."
