Mary, My condolences to you and your family. I was sad to hear of your Mom's passing. Your Mom was one of the first people to help support the Special Olympics Torch Run when we started the Valley leg many years ago. I will always remember her for her support and seeing you two on Friday nights at the Sandwich Man.

Billy and Mary, I was saddened to learn today of your Mom's passing. I have many fond memories over the years of her and the example she set. She was always kind to me and although I had not seen her often over the past few years Each time we met she brought a smile to my face. I will miss her waving at me through the window at sandwich man. Billy and Mary, I am sorry that I am traveling and cannot make your mom's memorial. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Your mom was always someone that I looked up to and someone whom I sought out for simple advice or just a piece of plain common sense. Her involvement in our community was tremendous and her devotion to our emergency services was amazing. I will always remember your mom and will often use her as an example of a quiet and strong leader whom I would love for my sons to emulate as they grow. Best wishes, Mike

I wish you all peace, as Mom now has hers. As we are sure to miss her wit and humor here, I like to think she was needed more elsewhere. Mom King certainly did her share to pass on the virtues she was gifted with. These gifts will live on and brighten our lives as she has shaped us all. Dear Family, Friends and Colleagues of Roberta King: I will not be able to attend the memorial service tomorrow due to a priority project deadline at work. I will pause at 10 am with a prayer and a wish that Roberta had a fulfilling long life and that her family and friends find comfort in in the many memories obtained while knowing a special human being for such a long time, I was very sad to hear of the illness and passing of this special and highly respected lady. She was a thoughtful and generous woman who was an enormous asset with the numerous ways in which she found to give up her time and energy to make the town of Seymour a better place to live for us all. Her legacy will live on in all that she did, all that she gave, and in her family. Roberta was active and never afraid of hard work and we marveled at how she kept going and going with enthusiasm and always with a goal to meet, especially if it meant helping someone in need. The last time I saw Roberta was about two months ago while she was running an errand with her daughter, Mary, and we happened to be in the same place. I wish I had known that would be the last time that I would see her but I know she knew I cared. She was the kind of person who would not focus the attention on herself but on you and yours, She gave me one of her bright smiles and chuckles that day, did not hesitate to give me a big hug and looked into my eyes and asked me how I was doing knowing it had been a year since the passing of my father and her friend, Retired Det. Sgt. Andrew Martin. Roberta and my father were friends and became admirers of each other's qualities while collaborating at events for the community, the police, charity, etc. Roberta never failed to send her best wishes home to me and my mother through him or my son, Trevor. I will always remember how proud my father was to tell me that Roberta King was so pleased that my son, Trevor, and her nephew Ken grew up being best friends from childhood to manhood and she considered herself Trevor's honorary godmother. She would tell my father that both he and Trevor were special to her and always asked if there was anything they needed. My father would also smile with pride every time he told me that he saw his friend at a community function or at the store and she told him again (he never got tired of hearing compliments about his grand parenting of Trevor or parenting skills of his "Baby" - his endearing nickname for me) that she thought that he and my mother (who passed away in Dec. 2004) must have done everything right to bring up a daughter who did an excellent job as a single mother. She had high praise and respect for Trevor and me and my parents. Roberta never forgot to send a card whenever she heard my parents were not feeling well and she never failed to go visit him at the hospital or convalescent home or console the Martin family during our time of grievings. Rest in peace, Roberta...your work on earth is done. You will be missed! To the King Family: I know the pain of losing parents but I don't know the heartache you are all experiencing individually or as a family. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do any time during or after your bereavement. God Bless - Dona Martin
