Allow me to express my most SINCERE SYMPATHY on what is truly your loss.  Having lost my spouse I know full well what Y'all are going thru.

Although not directly I worked with Mike at DCMA Sikorsky for more years than I care to remember.  He & I used to chat from time to time in the halls.  He always had a smile and was a pleasure to know.  I retired this past Jan 31st and I remember Mike coming up to me a few days before my leaving.  He wished me well and told me how happy he was that he'd shortly be following me to his new life.

There's always minor disagreements between folks in the workplace but I don't recall anyone ever voicing harsh comments about him.  He truly was one heckofa guy!

Be proud you had him in your life.  You were truly blessed.  May your memories of the happy times sustain you in your grief and help you heal.

My Mike story:  One day, during the slow week after Christmas, only 3 of us QAS's were in the office.  I just came upstairs from making my rounds on the shop floor.  Mike had his office door wide open as he usually did and he was having rather loud converstion with someone on the phone (I still don't know who was on the other end).  He told the person on the phone "I only have 3 QAS's in the office today and 2 out of 3 of them are idiots".  I  looked at one of my other coworkers (I'll call him one of the G's), who also overheard the conversation and I said "ok, it's official, we both have 33 1/3 % chance of being an idoit".   If anyone other than Mike had said this, we may have been upset, but we were used to his management style by now and never took anything he said personally.  Fast forward a year or so, it was the day before he retired I finally asked him about this statement, his reply was "If you bring donuts tomorrow, you're not the idiot". LOL!  I forgot the donuts, but by then me and G already determined that the third guy on duty that day was the idiot. 

As his write up states Mike was a fine sports enthusiast and was pretty good at most of the stuff he played like softball and golf.  Mike also had a funny side to him usually of the dry humor variety.  One prank he played on me that comes to mind involved a tack and a yard stick.  As I often did not know when to stop asking questions at meetings keeping us past our normal hour, he thought best to remedy this flaw. I remember him saying Spinello I have this convincer here that I am not afraid to use if you ask too many questions.  At the first question I asked I received a light tap to my leg that gave me a little jump. The next question was a little harder but survivable. The last tap was more of a deep grinding, enduring strike that would normally cause the average person to shriek.  After everyone burst into laughter I finally conceded to mend my ways in the excess questions department.

Mike will surely be missed as a great coworker and friend, my deepest sympathies for his wife, family and immediate friends.
