Obituary for Hermann Szalek
SEYMOUR: Hermann Szalek, age 85 of Seymour, beloved husband of the late Inge (Arndt) Szalek, entered peaceful rest on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 in Shady knoll Health Care, Seymour. Born in Germany on February 4, 1937, he was the son of the late Anton and Maria (Wahl) Szalek.
A retired development mechanic for GE, Hermann was an avid soccer fan and player. He was a member of the Germania Sports Club, and played for the German American Club in NY, as well as the Soccer for Meriden Singing Society. He also loved racing pigeons in the Valley and was part of the Danbury Racing Pigeon Club.
Survivors include his loving daughters, Liane Litke of Ansonia, Linda Racine of Bridgeport, and Heidi Meholik of FL; adored grandchildren, David Litke (Laura), Kristen Cavallaro (Paul), Chuck Baldino (Kelly), Jason Baldino and Angelica Racine; 10 cherished great-grandchildren, as well as his many friends whom he enjoyed breakfast with at Route 67 Diner. Mr. Szalek was predeceased by his daughter, Monika Szalek-Pindel.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 10 am to 11:30 am in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St. Seymour, CT 06483. Services celebrating his life will be held at 11:30am in the funeral home and interment will follow in Mt. Meadows Cemetery, Seymour.
