Obituary for JoAnn Cecelia Macko (Gmyrek)

SEYMOUR, CT: JoAnn Cecelia Macko, 84 of Beacon Falls, formerly of Seymour, she entered into peaceful rest on January 5, 2023; she was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Macko. Mrs. Macko was born June 3, 1938 in Browerville, MN, daughter of the late Charles and Katherine (Kaluza) Gmyrek. JoAnn was a retired Registered Nurse having worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections at Newtown for many years. She was a devout communicant and former choir member of St. Nicholas Parish-St. Augustine Church. JoAnn was also a member of the church quilting club, and lovingly sewed quilts for Quilts of Valor and other charities. She enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and family and watching baseball, always cheering on the Minnesota Twins! She always looked forward to Sunday morning breakfast with her church crew after mass.

JoAnn leaves her loving family including her daughters, Julie Risko (Ed) of Shelton, Patty Macko (Bill Petrasy), and Katie Macko (Darin Bradley) all of New Bern, NC; a sister, Marge Reamer of Minneapolis, MN; her cherished grandsons Charles Macko of New Bern, NC, and Jake Bradley of Walpole, NH; her special niece, Christine Moskal (Paul) of Hamden, and several beloved nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her brother, James Gmyrek and her sister, Clara Doble.

Calling Hours will be Saturday January 14th from 9 AM to 10:30 AM at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine Church, 35 Washington Ave., Seymour directly following at 11 AM. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at St. Augustine Cemetery.
