Obituary for Bruce M. Baker

Print
Bruce Baker, 75, of Seymour passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 after a short illness brought on by a brain aneurysm.
Bruce was born on April 24, 1943 in Brockton, MA. He was the son of the late Stanley Lane Baker and the late Jean Baker (Remick). Bruce was raised in Hanson, MA and graduated from Whitman-Hanson Regional High School in 1961. He was the first person in his family to graduate from college, graduating from Northeastern University in 1966.
He started his career in the General Electric Manufacturing Management Training Program, working in Schenectady, NY, Cincinnati, OH and Bridgeport. He later worked with Risdon Corp. in Naugatuck and Truelove and Maclean in Waterbury where he retired in 2007.
Bruce will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 54 years, Karen (Prario) and his sons, Erik (Cecile) of New York City and Greg (M.C.) of Westford, VT. Bruce will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Jackson, Alexandra and Cameron of New York City and Ziva of Westford, VT all of whom he absolutely cherished. Additionally, Bruce is survived by brothers Stephen (Robin) of Milton, NH, Richard of Carver, MA, Robert of Van Alystne, TX, and sister, Janet Taylor of Raynham, MA. He is also survived by brother and sister-in-law Clayton and Leslie Prario and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to leaving behind a family that revered and adored him, Bruce leaves an extraordinary legacy of service to the town of Seymour. Among other leadership roles, Bruce served as Seymour’s Deputy First Selectman and Chairman of the Board of Education as well as a member of the Board of Ethics, Chatfield School Building Committee, High School Building Committee, Seymour Strategic Planning Committee and the Board of Assessment Appeals. He was very involved in sports and recreation groups including serving as the Cub Master of Pack 65, Little League baseball and basketball coach, President of Seymour Pop Warner, President of the Seymour Kickoff Club, President of the Seymour Fathers’ Club and President of the Hoopsters’ Club.
He was an active and devoted 46-year member of Seymour Congregational Church serving numerous terms as Moderator, Deacon and multiple finance roles.
Bruce loved Boston sports and enjoyed the great success of those teams in recent years. He also loved to golf in retirement with his friends at the Crestbrook Park Golf Course of which he served as President of the Senior League for five years. He was proud of his three holes in one and was having his best year of golf at the time of his illness.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 22nd at 2:00 at the Seymour Congregational Church, 45 Broad Street, Seymour. The family will welcome friends at a celebration of life reception in the fellowship hall at 3:00. Interment will be private.
