Obituary for Jean A. Shugrue (Foster)

SEYMOUR, CT: Jean Foster Shugrue of Seymour passed away November 27, 2017 at Griffin Hospital after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Francis D. Shugrue. Born in Seymour, Jean was the daughter of Julia (Doll) and George Foster and was a lifelong resident. She married Fran after graduating from Colby Jr. College and settled down in Seymour to raise her six children who were the center of her life. She worked for many years at Seymour Oil Company and in later life, as a floral arranger at Bethany Florists where she enjoyed expressing herself creatively through her love of flowers. She had many artistic talents and used them in her sewing, knitting, and other crafts. She was an avid gardener, a wonderful cook, and a prolific reader. She is survived by her 6 children; John Shugrue and his wife Susan of Seymour, Elizabeth Shugrue Weller and her husband Robert of Winston-Salem, NC, Kathleen Shugrue of Concord, MA, James Shugrue of Arlington, TX, Dennis Shugrue and his wife Pamela of East Hampton,and Thomas Shugrue and his wife Linda of West Hartford.  Jean also leaves behind her sister Lorraine Huber of St. Augustine, FL, brother William Foster of Woodbridge, CT, and Judith Foster of Lincoln, MA. She was also the loving grandmother of 10 and great-grandmother of 9 great-grandchildren.  She was a devoted parishioner of St. Augustine’s Church. Her family wishes to express gratitude to Natalia Tankova who was Jean’s loving companion and home healthcare aide for the past several years. Her loyalty to Jean and support has been greatly appreciated.  
 
Calling Hours will be held at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 Church Street, Seymour, from 4-7p.m. on Thursday. Funeral Services will be Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home, to St. Augustine’s Church, 35 Washington Ave., where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.  Interment will be in St. Augustine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 200 Connecticut Ave, Ste. 4E, Norwalk, CT 06854.
