Obituary for David F. "Big Dave" Kuch

David F. Kuch (RRMF), age 57 of Milford and formerly of Stratford, beloved husband of his “One and Only”, Tweed (Irvine) Kuch, entered peaceful rest on Friday, November 24, 2017 in Masonicare Healthcare of Wallingford, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Van Nuys, CA, on June 18, 1960, he was a son of the late Karl and Genevieve (O’Reilly) Kuch. “Big Dave”, as he was affectionately known, worked at Sikorsky for 39 years and enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and nature, especially bald eagles and red-tailed hawks. He could often be found riding his motorcycle and vacationed in upstate New York. An avid Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix fan, Big Dave was a talented musician and played drums for many local bands, including Scarlet Fury, Delta 88, Just For Kicks (JFK), and Inner Groove, and would always be willing to fill in for bands such as The Navels and The Void. He also founded the Breakfast Band as part of the Smith and Barber Morning Show on WPLR. Before battling cancer, Big Dave was happy to have checked off some bucket list items with Tweed. Together they attended many concerts, visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, went to his first NHL and NFL games, traveled to Europe, and even swam with dolphins in the Caribbean. Above all else, Big Dave was a generous man with a huge heart. For many years he volunteered his time for local events including Stratford Day and the Milford Oyster Festival, and was a Cub Scouts Troop Leader. He will be remembered and missed for his years of dressing up as Santa each holiday season for children. In addition to the “Love of His Life”, Tweed, Big Dave is survived by his sons, Jason Kuch (Andrea) of Stratford, and Anthony Kuch of Stratford; brothers, Ed Prohs of NV, and Raymond Prohs of CA; his cherished granddaughter, Madison; nieces, Ananda and Chelsea Marie; grand-niece, Juniper Rose, as well as his lifelong friend, Marty Goldschmidt of Shelton. A Celebration of his Life will take place on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 12 pm – 6 pm in Joey C’s Boathouse Cantina, 955 Ferry Blvd. Stratford, CT 06614. Ralph Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church St. Seymour, CT 06483 has been entrusted with his arrangements.Donations in Big Dave's memory can be made to The Mary A. Schmecker Turtle Shell Fund (www.turtleshellfund.com). A special "Thank You" goes out for the care and support given by The Smilow Cancer Hospital YNHH, Sister Anne Grimes Health Center, and Masonicare Healthcare Center Wallingford.
